After training and working in advertising and graphic design, Richard Wallace was drawn towards painting and other fine arts. As a self taught painter he first exhibited with the 'Portland Gallery', Manchester with whom he took part in the 'New Artist Exhibition' at the 'South Bank National Theatre'. In the early 80's he was presented with the 'Young Artist Award' by the 'Manchester Academy of Fine Arts', and was a popular exhibitor at several 'International Arts Fairs' in various venues.
